Your DeSkuzzer arrives folded, with the net, buoys, and rope harness already attached. Here’s everything from the box to your first pass, and a few tips from the workshop that make the job easier. Get your DeSkuzzer on the water in minutes.

What you’re working with

A 54-inch floating seine, fully assembled, no tools.

The DeSkuzzer collects surface debris as you drag it across a pond or lake. Five parts do the work and arrives fully assembled and ready to use, and your pull line is included in the package.

Assembly

Unfold, insert, snap.

1Lay it flat and unfold

Getting your Deskuzzer in the water in less than 5 minutes is a breeze. Set the DeSkuzzer on a flat surface, find the top bar, and unfold it at the intersecting point.

2Find the intersecting points

Locate where the square aluminum tubing meets. On the right-side assembly, top and bottom, snap buttons sit on the top surface of the tubing, under the mesh.

3Insert the tubing

Insert the smaller right-side tubing into the larger tubing. Alternate between top bar and bottom bar, pushing each until the snap buttons meet the larger tubing.

4Depress the snap buttons

Press the buttons, top first, then bottom, and keep inserting until each seats in its hole. A gentle rocking motion helps the buttons find their seat.

5Click, and you’re done

When both buttons click into their holes, assembly is complete. Spread out your mesh netting across the frame and you are ready to go.

Before the water: pull the orange harness out and make sure it’s free of the mesh.

Getting it on the water

The Toss Method.

How most owners deploy the DeSkuzzer, from shore or from a boat. It takes a few tries to get the hang of, and then it’s second nature.

1Loop the rope over your wrist

Before anything else, place the slip-knot loop at the end of the rope over your wrist, so the pull line doesn’t follow the DeSkuzzer into the water.

2Take the grip

Let the rope hang free. Put your throwing hand on the back of a float and guide the top bar with your other hand.

3Rock and release

With a rocking, throwing motion, swing the DeSkuzzer toward the patch of water you want to clear, and let go.

4Drag it back slowly

Pull the skuzz back to you at an easy pace. Then set the DeSkuzzer face down on the ground to empty the netting.

More ways to deploy it

The toss isn’t the only option.

From Shore (Classic Method)Throw from land and retrieve with the pull line, toss – pull – empty.

Ahead of a RowboatHold it in front of the boat with a pole or boat hook, purchased separately.

WadingPull it behind you as you walk through or stand in shallow water.

Shore to ShoreRun it back and forth between two people on opposite banks.

Harness tip: if the bottom part of the orange harness obstructs debris collection, it can simply be untied.

Tips from the workshop

Work smart, not soggy.

  • Let the wind help corral the skuzz before you make your pass.
  • Draw the DeSkuzzer through the water slowly; rushing costs you debris.
  • Don’t overfill it, 50 pounds is the limit per pass, and lighter passes are easier anyway.
  • Work a section at a time and be persistent; think of it like mowing the lawn.
  • Empty the skuzz onto the ground in the sun: it’s over 90% water, so it dries fast and gets light enough to handle easily.

After the water: storage

The frame is aluminum. Dry it completely after use, then store it out of sunlight. That’s the whole maintenance routine.

This design replaces the 2023 version with a few improvements. Older demonstration videos remain valid, since both designs are used the same way.
